Cookie Slab Table Progress
Lots of progress on the slab tables. Today I sanded the router marks away at 80 grit, then I made some Walnut butterfly keys to stabilize some cracks and add a bit of detail. I always liked these, I think they are a woodworking staple and add value to your work when done well.
After I cut a few on the band saw I took them over to the bench and cleaned up the rough cuts. My old craftsman band saw doesn't cut so good. Once I got them looking pretty nice I started to lay them out and traced them with my marking knife. I used a trim router and a small straight bit to get most of the excess out. This also creates a solid bottom surface for the key to rest. You'll hear the sound change drastically when it hits the bottom.
Next week I'll be adding more keys to the other tables and filling cracks with epoxy :)
